Scott Lemay is the CEO of United Waste Management of Holyoke, LLC. He has over 23 years of experience and has held many prominent executive management positions in the environmental industry. During his career, Mr. Lemay has built or operated several transfer stations, recycling facilities, landfills and collection operations throughout Massachusetts and other areas in the United States.
Mr. Lemay is particularly proud of the following projects:
Mr. Lemay developed the first material recovery facility in north-central Massachusetts, which serviced residential curbside and drop-off customers as well as commercial paper recycling programs. In the early 90’s he helped develop and serviced the first curb-side recycling programs in the City of Fitchburg MA, City of Gardner MA and City of Leominster MA.
He has served on various advisory committees to assist in developing long term solid waste management plans for Massachusetts communities.
Mr. Lemay has managed, developed, or owned more than 10 solid waste transfer stations, landfills, and hauling operations throughout MA. He played a significant role in upgrading several Massachusetts landfill projects. In the early 90’s many Massachusetts landfills were unlined and posed environmental threats. He worked with communities, regulators, and management teams to close unlined landfills, mitigate environmental problems and properly line future landfill cells. Examples are in Fitchburg, Granby, Chicopee, Gardner, and Barre, MA.
He assisted in implementing gas extraction systems at several MA landfills. At the City of Fitchburg landfill site, he helped negotiate and implement a gas extraction system that fueled a nearby electrical generation plant. The project uses gas from the landfill which decreased the plant’s natural gas consumption and reduced greenhouse gas emissions from the landfill.
He is a graduate of Bentley College and resides in Bolton MA with his two children and fiancée. He is proud to have been a 42 year resident of the City of Fitchburg (a mill City in transition) and recognizes many of the similarities and challenges to a City such as Holyoke. Mr. Lemay wants everyone in Holyoke to know that he is committed to a project that provides substantial benefits to the City of Holyoke; he has no interest in a project that does not respect the community, public health and the environment. He has enjoyed many successes in his career and at this point in his life; he would not have it any other way.
